Castle has interrupted all his contacts with his Detective partner after he has moved to Hampton to get some privacy he required for finishing his second book about Nikki Heat. Since last appearance no one had meet him. The only place where people could possibly meet him was the board with the advertise of the upcoming book release. While Castle has been writing somewhere, Kate just continued doing her job the way she used before. Being on an investigation of one case and chasing a criminal her team breaks into the apartment where they hope to grab the killer. But the picture they catch instead is shoking - one person dead, one is alive and standing over the dead body with the gun in the hands. The most surprising thing there is that the man with the gun is Castle.
